Privacy Policy
Last updated October 9, 2026
Anar is built by Abdul Abbas (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Anar app and getanar.app, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
Information you give us
- Account details. Your phone number, or your Apple ID email if you sign in with Apple, used to create and secure your account.
- Profile. Your name, username, profile photo, home city and anything else you choose to add.
- Content you share. Reviews, ratings, photos, reels or TikTok links you share to a place, collections, suggested edits, new places and reports you send us.
- Activity. Places you save or mark as visited (your passport), collections you join, people you follow or block, and scout quest progress.
- Waitlist and support. Your email address and city if you join the waitlist, and anything you include when you contact us.
Information collected automatically
- Location. With your permission, we use your device location while the app is open to show nearby places, prayer times and the Qibla direction, and to center your map. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings.
- Camera, photos and motion. Only when you choose to add a photo, or use the Qibla compass.
- Device and notifications. A push notification token if you allow notifications, plus basic technical data (such as app version and device type) needed to run and secure the service.
How we use information
- To run Anar: show places, save your passport and collections, and let you share with friends.
- To keep the map accurate: review suggested edits, new places, closure reports and shared reels.
- To keep the community safe: moderate content, act on reports and prevent abuse.
- To send messages you asked for, such as sign-in codes, notifications and waitlist updates.
- To understand what is working and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
What other people can see
Your profile, public reviews, photos and reels you share to a place can be seen by other Anar users. Collections are visible to the people you invite. Your phone number and email are never shown to other users.
Service providers
We use trusted providers to run Anar. They process data only on our instructions:
- Google Firebase for sign-in and phone verification.
- Supabase for our database, storage and server functions.
- Apple for Sign in with Apple, maps and push notifications.
- Google Places and Mapbox for place information and maps.
- A prayer-times service, which receives approximate coordinates to calculate times.
- Vercel to host our website.
We may also share information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy will continue to apply.
How long we keep information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep limited records for legal, security or fraud-prevention reasons. Reviews you posted may be removed or anonymized.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile and delete your reviews, photos and collections in the app.
- Delete your account in the app from your profile settings (tap Delete Account), or by emailing us. See how to delete your account.
- Turn off location, photos, camera and notifications in your device settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, or object to certain processing. Email us to make a request, and you may also contact your local data protection authority.
Children
Anar is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children; if you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security and international transfers
We use encryption in transit, access controls and row-level security to protect your data. Our providers may process data in countries other than your own; where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
